Arc del Triomf Barcelona. This triumphal arch monument was built as the entrance to the Barcelona 1888 Universal exhibition by modernist architect 'Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas' in a moorish revival style.
This Barcelona landmark is located at the end of the Passeig de Lluís Companys, which starts at the Arc de Triomf and goes to the
Parc de la Ciutadella.
The stone sculpture on the front frieze is by Josep Reynés and is called 'Barcelona Rep les Nacions' in Catalan language, which means 'Barcelona welcomes the nations.'
The opposite frieze contains a stone carving named 'Recompense', a work from the earliest period of sculptor Josep Llimona.
At the top of the arch you can see Barcelona's coat of arms and also that of all 49 other Spanish provinces, which is by Torquat Tassó and Antoni Vilanova. Barcelona's Arc de Triomf is often the venue for public events
